RAM 1500 is Australia’s top-selling US pick-up for seventh year in a row

The RAM 1500 has passed a major milestone, earning the title of Australia’s top-selling US pick-up for a record seventh year in a row.

Official new-car sales data for calendar year 2024 – released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) – shows 3239 RAM 1500s were sold in Australia last year, making it the top-selling vehicle in the US pick-up category.

Under embargo until the figures are released by the FCAI today (for calendar year 2024):
• Ram 1500: 3239
• Competitor A: 2428
• Competitor B: 2389
• Competitor C: 469

The December 2024 result means RAM Trucks has now sold more than 30,000 vehicles in Australia and New Zealand since 2016 – more than twice as many US pick-ups in Australia than any other brand over the same period.

The sales milestones were achieved in the same month the final batch of V8-powered RAM 1500 pick-ups were remanufactured locally ahead of a switch to an updated model.

By mid 2025, the RAM 1500 will move to turbocharged six-cylinder petrol power with an updated model, selling alongside remaining stock of the final V8 variants.

“We would like to thank our customers who drove us to Number One, and we also must thank the 200-plus production line workers and 50-plus engineers in Melbourne who remanufacture our vehicles from left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive to factory standards,” said Jeff Barber, the General Manager of RAM Trucks Australia.

“We know the US pick-up market in Australia is getting more competitive, but we remain absolutely committed to this segment.

“Australians have a great sense of adventure and you can even see it on the roads over the holiday season.

“These vehicles deliver a level of comfort and capability that traditional four-wheel-drives can’t match.”

As previously reported, RAM Trucks Australia is currently undertaking an extensive engineering program ahead of the release of an updated RAM 1500 with turbocharged six-cylinder petrol power, due in showrooms by the middle of the year.
